| I'm planning on writing a Really Meaningful blogpost (next week, really) about superheroines in cartoons. (Yeah, I'd wanted to do it today, but (A) I got sidetracked reading political blogs and wow, did that suck up all my time this morning and now our friends are coming over and dang I still have to clean the house, and (B) I have to go to Albacon for my afternoon panel on Urban Fantasy 101.) So to prepare for next Sunday's post about superheroines on television, I have a question for everyone: Who is your favorite TV cartoon superheroine? You can post your reasons why (in fact, please do), but even if you only post who your favorite cartoon superheroine is by FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17, you'll be entered in yet another giveaway. :) I'll give a signed copy of Hell's Belles, plus two all-new Black and White buttons, to one random commenter, to be announced next Sunday. Have at it! |

Favorite Superheroine... now, that's a tough one b/c this is just another arena where the men dominate. :)
But I'd have to go with Rogue from the X-men. Now, she had a rough time b/c of her powers, but she was always full of passion, willing to do the right thing, and she could totally kick butt! But the whole lack of human contact thing would definitely be rough.
Just in my own head, I was trying to think of Super Heroines...
Invisible Woman - Fantastic 4
Jean Gray - X-men
Storm - X-men
Kitty - X-men
Supergirl - Superman
Jubilee - X-men
That's all I could think of... kind of a sad showing. Hmm... anyone else know of more?
I'm partial to Hawk Girl. She's incredibly impulsive and quite a smart ass :)

I always liked Storm as a child. Controlling the weather and flying seemed like a blast.
I've been watching a lot of Smallville, though, and I love their portrayal of Supergirl. She's sassy and independant.
Don't forget about She-Ra Princess of Power for we children of the 80s! She-Ra could talk to animals and was superhumanly strong and had a healing touch, woohoo.
As an adult, though, my favorite superheroine is still Storm. She has the touch of dangerous angst mixed in with the coolest powers. I loved when she comes up out of the elevator crackling with power.
I found this on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_superheroines.
For me it has to be Starfire from the Teen Titans series on Cartoon Network. Her floundering over the English language, her vile eating habits like smothering pancakes in mustard, and her child like exuburance made her a fun character. But never, ever, make her angry because the Hulk has nothing on that girl.
I'd have to say Rogue from X-Men Evolution purely for this one super cool scene where she cries out:
'My power is your power! And I can take more than one!'
And then proceeds to demonstrate.
*grin*
I LOVE that line.
I feel deprived or something. I have only watched one superheroine on TV. EVER. Wonder Woman way back in the 70s. And that's the show where she was back in WWII, not the "modern day" show.
I'm not a comic book person, and the only super heros I watched were the men (Batman, Superman, etc). Not just their movies, either. I'm old enough to remember the old Superman and Batman TV shows.
I'm feeling old now.
oh, another thing.
Albacon? Wow. I think it so cool that Jessica Alba has her own convention. I'd go.
I think that I have to say Rogue. She's just really cook and I love her hair. :)
I don't watch a lot of tv with heros and heroines in it. My TV time is limited to Eureka (no one really in there), and True Blood (does Sookie count? Cause if so? I love her. She is da bomb)
Lucy Lawless. Allow me to explain...
In one of the Halloween Simpsons episodes, Bart and Lisa got superpowers, but got into a sticky situation, where they thought Xena rescued them and flew them to safety. Quoth the lady: "I'm not Xena - I'm Lucy Lawless."
Have a lovely day! :-)
kmcalear- thanks for the list... and omg!! HOW could I forget She-Ra! I need to buy the DVD so badly... I had the castle, most of the characters, the horse, etc when I was a kid... mom made me give it to my cousin who beat the crap out of it though. :( So sad.
Probably not in the running as far as SUPER heroines, but I always thought Velma on Scooby Doo always had it together and didn't get enough credit.
She always had the plan, Freddie took the credit. She was amazingly smart, but took the back seat to Daphne. I could (and still can) totally identify with Velma.....
My fave was always Emma Frost who began as a supervillain, but ultimately joined with the X-men. Though like most superheoines, she had a bizarre tendency to hang out in her lingerie. lol
If you hadn't specified "TV cartoons" I'd be trying to figure out which of the Birds of Prey was my favorite. That was a great series, so of course it was cancelled after a handful of episodes. [sigh] They came across as real people, though, not one-dimensional kiddy-fodder and not cardboard eye-candy. The Killing Joke was always one of my favorite graphic novels, and I loved seeing a TV series bang off it, even if they didn't go into details of Barbara's backstory right there on the program.
Cartoons are hard, though. I haven't watched any super hero cartoons since I was a kid, and back then there were darned few females in the super-hero shows, and the ones who were there were pretty lame. :/
OK, I've been thinking and really can't come up with anyone I liked enough to call a "favorite." The females from the super hero cartoons in the 70s when I was a kid were just so awful, and I haven't seen any of the new X-Men cartoons. Sounds like I'll have to try renting them, though.
Angie
Wolverine from the X-Men
I have to saw Hawkgirl, but mainly because she has a very large mace. And any cute woman with a large bludgeoning weapon has my heart.
..and wings. The wings are nice. *grin*
Wow...I was going to say something completely different until I saw the 'cartoon' part....dang.
Ever seen The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy? Mandy cracks me up!!!! She may not have super powers, but she wields a wicked wit and masterful manipulations in order to save Billy's and Grim's butts quite often.
Mandy is an awesome girl in that series. I first saw it when it was part of a 3fer on Cartoon Network. They had this other show with an adorable little girl and a vampire, which me and Fluffy loved but that one just kind of fell by the wayside.
All Hail Wikipedia!
I had all the She-Ra toys too, after all there really weren't such heroes for little girls at that time. I still have the horse in my mother's attic somewhere.
I definitely think Velma can count, her super-power is super intellect right?
Jayna the female in the wonder twins... she could turn into any animal she could name.... I loved her... Wonder Twins Activate.
I really liked Jennifer Gardner in Electra! I don't know if this one counts as a ssuperheroine but how about Lindsay Wagner as the original Bionic Woman, loved this show!
I'm right there with ya on the She-Ra stuff, and I'd also add Princess Allura from Voltron: Defender of the Universe. Blue lion kicks butt!
TV Cartoon Superheroines eh? I would say Rogue from X-Men the Animated Series of the '90s, but since she's been spoken for, I'll take April O'Neil from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Why? Because she made yellow jumpsuits hot, and always covered up for the turtles' shenanigans.
