| I tend to set my books in an almost eternal Fall, because it's my favorite season for many a reason. First of all, there's logistics. Simon wears either a suede or leather Angel-length coat at most times to hide the retractable bat at his belt... also, he likes Angel. The idea of him wearing it in the high heat of summer stewing in his own sweat frankly skeeves me out, so I always like to think there's a little chill in the air. Odd that that skeeves me out when you consider he's often covered in ectoplasm, zombie bits or blood.... Second, the Fall gets dark earlier once time changes over I love that... it gives more time for the creepy crawlies of the Big Apple to come out. And third, for me anyway, Fall has always been when exciting things happen . It always harkened the beginning of school, new faces, the beginning of a new year of theater in school... it was also the time I tended to fall in love. What seasons do you love? What time of year do you tend to set your stories? |

I think it depends on the story. Most of my short stories are set in spring for the beginnings, summer for drastic things, fall for recovery (also for beginnings), and most of romance stories are in winter. My favorite season is fall, though, and I know a lot of my action is there because leaves as part of a fight are just cool. :)
I'm like you, I have a tendency to write stories that occur during the fall. Autumn is my favorite time of year - I love the cool, crisp air and the encroaching darkness!
I do tend to start my stories either in Fall or Spring. Strangely, the UF is usually in the Fall and Winter. Fantasy usually Spring and Summer. It didn't occur to me until your post though. I guess now I have to have a Fall Fantasy and a Spring UF.
As for clothes in my UF. My vamps are not affected by temp at all, so they pretty much wear what the want year round. But Fall/Winter make it easier for all my characters to hide guns, blades small thermal nuclear devices (Yes, in Texas you can get a license to carry concealed Weapons of LIMITED Mass Destruction)
I'm a fan of the gloom that is fall. We get a butt load of gray weather over here in the PNW. As far as writing, I get a feel for a story and then match the season to it, especially if there's a holiday I can reference to. It grounds the story for me.
I can't wait to do a holiday story with undead snowmen!
Ditto with the Fall stories. Or *ahem* Autumn, as we like to call it here in the UK. ;)
I like late Autumn, when it's just tipping over into Winter. Cold enough for a coat, but not so cold everyone is constantly bundled up with scarves and hats... Hey, I'm a girl. I have to think about these things!
