| It's 4:23 am, and I'm up. What do I do? (A) Make a nice cup of tea and try to get back to sleep (B) Get a glass of wine and try to get back to sleep (C) Screw the sleep, let's get some caffeine and start writing (D) Google for the possible reasons why I can't sleep and freak out over the (slight) possibilities of tumors, brain disorders and possession (E) Go online and see if my Seattle buddies are awake (hi, Caitlin!) (F) Think about waking up my kids, just to return the favor of many a long, sleep-deprived night from when they were infants (G) Grab a book and read (H) Plot to take over the world -- real or fictional, doesn't matter (I) Blog and post to various online communities; heck, might as well be a little productive* (J) Mix and match any of the above What do you do when you can't sleep? * Okay, duh, so this one's a gimme |

Apparently I check our the League site.... since I went to bed at 1:30 and have been up since 5am.
Normally, I turn on the TV and stare into infomercial oblivion until sleep overtakes again.
Ha! If I really can't go back to sleep, I usually pull out the laptop and get to work. On the theory that if I can't be sleeping I might as well be useful. It tends to happen in some stages of writing, the brain is too busy to shut down.
"Not sleeping" is more the norm for me than "sleeping."
Occasionally I write, but a lot of the time I just catch up on bills, laundry, etc.
I do find that home repair projects that make no sense in the light of day often get started at 2 or 3 am, so I'm trying to keep a lid on that.
Hmm... usually I lie in bed and deny that I'm not sleeping. Or I'll get up and flip channels til the brain shuts down. Or occassionally write... the only probablem with that is that it doesn't always make sense the next day. :)
I read, watch TV, clean, work out, maybe do a bit of studying or just lay in bed until I either finally fall asleep or wait until it's morning to get up.
I generally try to fall back to sleep which seldom works and often means that I am up at 3 a.m. I am a bad sleeper...I am not going to go online and try to find out what possibly could be wrong...lol. I then read for a bit and then check my email and the blogs. I mostly just enjoy the quiet as it does not happen to often around my house.
read a book, go online...be mad about being tired for work later that day!
Man, am I in a minority. I have trouble staying awake. I nod off at home, at work, and in the car - while my wife is driving. This is probably due to me rolling out of bed at 5am and never getting back in any earlier then 11pm. Too much to do.
I plot to take over the world. My latest scheme involves ... well, I can't actually tell you. But it's totally gonna work this time!
