| You ever hear a song that makes you stop everything you're doing so that you can better listen to it? Maybe it's the lyrics; maybe it's the beat; more likely, it's a combination of the sound and the words. I was driving home last night when I heard this song on the radio that made me start banging my hand against the wheel and singing the chorus (quietly; the kidlets were sleeping). I made myself remember the first line of the chorus (easy, because it was one line that repeated), and as soon as I got home I Googled it. And then I saw the video, and it blew me away. The song, in case you're wondering, is "Youth of the Nation" by P.O.D. -- and here's the video. The last song to make me stop in my tracks like that was Breaking Benjamin's acoustic version of "The Diary of Jane." That one hit me so hard that I nearly changed a character's name in my current story at the time (HOTTER THAN HELL) from Virginia to Jane. This ever happen to you -- that you hear a song that utterly grabs you by the throat and won't let go? If so, which song? |

Jackie, I love that song - the Diary of Jane - it's lovely and the video's awesome as well.
I'm a very music-driven person, I have something on in the background all the time.
One of the most haunting songs I've ever heard is Assemblage 23- 30,000 feet. It's incredible. I'm not the weepy type, but this brought tears to my eyes and I couldn't stop listening to it. I think it'll be great inspiration for something down the road.
You bet it has. The first time I heard The Sex Pistols sing "God save the Queen"( I know I'm old so what) I turned to my dad and said"the world is changing big time" More recently I heard this pop song by a woman name Duffy(the song is called Mercy) and it made me cry. Not because it's profound but because she sounds like Lulu and Dusty Springfield and life was kinder and simpler then. So yeah all the time.
Oh, man - music can be so powerful. I remember the first time i heard Pink Floyd's "One Of These Days", a brilliant instrumental that uses only two chords! The whole song bounces back and forth from A to B and that's it.
That day it snowed nearly a foot. My buddy and I made a plan to head out to the nearest parking lot after hours and spin his old Rambler around, hopefully without wrapping it around a pool. We hit the lot after ten and started cruising when the song started. It opens with a heavy wind blowing, followed by a single bass note, echoing in the distance then again.
As the song intensified we cruised faster and faster in time with the music and not once did we wreck the car or get interrupted by the police. It was magical.
The song that did it for me is "You and Me" from Lifehouse.
BTW that song from POD was one of Buffy's song
"Stay" by Shakespear's Sister
I can still listen to it over and over.
And "The Search Is Over" by Survivor. Nothing's better than a good power ballad. ;)
That was the song from the end of Narnia... I loved it so much I got the soundtrack AND Regina Spektor's latest CD. And streamed her through YouTube at work (shh...). The song is "The Call", but then on her CD, the one that made me stop was "Summer in the City." A sampling of lyrics:
Summer in the city
Cleavage, cleavage, cleavage
I rest my case. Even my husband likes this song. ;)
Sissy- Stay has Bollywood potential written all over it... I was just waiting for the wacky dancing to break out. Instead I got freaky woman with scary eyeliner.
