| Well, it's demon week, so I can't blog about my plans to become the future Mrs. Tony Stark. So it goes... Have some random movie geeking instead! Demons are so rarely well-done on film, and this makes me sad. But there are some demon films I count among my favorites, so here they are... The Exorcist Duh, right? A classic, sure to peg your creep-o-meter and beautifully shot. The Ring But wait! you cry. This movie isn't about a demon, it's about a little girl in the TV who kills people. Hah, I say, that all depends on your interpretation, and to me it's clear that little Samarra is something otherworldly. She appears mysteriously, lives on after being drowned and affects all of those around her with evil. Plus, that bitch is scary. Fallen A tight little film about the nature of evil, with a twist ending. And a vauguely sinister song wound throughout. Bonus. Constantine Before you all start yelling at me, no, I don't actually like this movie. The depiction of angels and demons, however, is one of the best I've ever seen. Eye candy gets points with me. I'm shallow. Stigmata For a film where you never actually see the demons integral to the story, it's remarkably effective and has a lot of spooky moments. The Exorcism of Emily Rose Shit story, good execution. The scenes of possession are primal and raw, and frightening as hell. Hellboy He's a demon who fights Nazis! There is no way that concept cannot be awesome. And with Ron Perelman in the title role, it's even better. What's your favorite demon movie? |

Evil Dead creeped my shit right out.
How about the Hellraiser or The Omen. Hellraiser really creeped me out...I was in high school when it came out and I can recall it giving me the heeby jeebies.
Sorry - I have absolutely nothing to contribute to any scary movie list. I have seen the Exorcist and Hellboy of the ones you listed. And I know I saw at least parts of one Freddy film when I was 12 or so. But I am a scaredy cat, a total chicken. No scary movies for me. My best friend even reminds me it's just "plastic and ketchup" but it doesn't help. I spend more time with my eyes covered than not.
And yet somehow I used to read King and Barker in high school. Go fig. I just can't take the visual, I guess.
Hellboy tops my demon movie list, cuz, well, I'm a wuss and avoid scary like...ummm...a fat scared little kid avoids the scary but being too big to hide so he just has to cover his eyes but can still see the blood and the screaming and the...
I'm just going to have a little lie down now. Carry on.
I can remember seeing Legend as a little kid,I know this isn't classified as a scary movie, but the devil/demon in it totally freaked me out. He was all red, huge horns coming out of his head and a scary voice, there was also the evil laugh he had.
After that, for months I wouldn't go to sleep unless the light was on in my bedroom.
Um, I saw legend when I was fifteen and I thought Mia Sara was a freaking idiot to choose Tom Cruise over that gorgeous, cloven-hooved, horny bad-ass Tim Curry. I was crushing big time.
Also had a bit of a crush on Tilda Swinton's archangel in Constantine. Sexually ambiguous, and yet somehow sexy as hell.
And The Ring scared the living crap out of me.
Oh, I love Hellboy. Always have, always will. Sigh.
I loved all those movies, especially Constantine. To each, their own. Demonic movies that I love include The Prophecy (which has Satan played by Vigo Mortensen). And who wouldn't love the original Rosemary's Baby?
Evil Dead is on my list as well.
I think one of the best for me is Jacob's Ladder. You don't actually see much of them in it, but when you do... man oh mah, do I wanna wet myself!
too many to list, but hellraiser is one
I love hellboy too... more comic than scary.
And tmthomas - You can hold my hand. We can cower in fear together (if future mrs. doesn't mind) :D
Angel Heart, anyone?
IRON MAN. Okay, it's not a demon movie, but I just saw it last night, and it was freaking AWESOME. :D
For personal demons, The Man With the Golden Arm. Frank Sinatra in the story of a man who quits heroin cold turkey. Possibly autobiographical. Hell can come in numerous forms.
