Spoiler Day! Unquiet Dreams Thread

posted by Mark at 11:07 AM

Two threads today, one for UT and the other for UD (cause I know you people read it already). I haven't, so I won't be looking in there. I'll leave it up to MDF to check in on those folks who want to venture in.

Use this thread to discuss all things spoilery about Unquiet Dreams! The ending perhaps. And by all means take Del Franco to task and pry out some new info.

Have fun.

I'm a reader that wants my cake and to eat it too. So I'm torn with the development of the story of Connor's injury and the mystery of the mysterious elf. I'm glad this book delved more into how he's getting along and touched upon his altered powers since the injury. At the same time, I'm anxious to see if he recovers/changes and what the story is with the cause of it all.

I did like the exchange with Keeva re: Connor's visa. It's a way to address the issue while still leaving it idling as sidenote. That was well done.

I guess I'm sort of the same way on Murdoch's essence...it's a great piece of the story, but this inquiring mind wants to know ASAP instead of letting MDF develop it at a narrative pace.

I can't agree more tm. Book two got me even more hooked. I think I enjoyed it even more than the first. There are so many more possibilities. I want to know more about Briallen, Bergin Vize, Murdock's essence, Callin, and especially Meryl.

While this story didn't really expound upon Connor's "unknown mass" specifically, so many new facets were introduced that affected it and changed how I as a reader viewed it (before it seemed more like a tumor, and now something much more undefinable). Now I also am anxious to see if he recovers/changes and what exactly it is.

And with the ending leaving us hanging with just as many open ended questions as closure, I really want that next book. How long do I have to wait again???

I can't wait to see what happens, towards the end with Connor seeing Bergin Vize and the cryptic comment.. Also looking forward to see what happens with Murdock and his essence, and if Connor and Meryl are going to get together.
I think Connor is on the road to gaining either his abilities back or completely new one, with the dreaming and the way his essence reacted being able to use the stone..I can't wait to see what happens next!!!

For Connor's story, it has been important for me to keep each book self-contained while deepening the mystery of the dark mass and Connor's future. It will be revealed...eventually.

But, let me ask this: as readers, when it comes to a story that takes several books to tell, what makes you lose patience?

Mark.

Short answer, Mark: lack of progress, or marginal progress while the mystery deepens. That feeling that it might be book 20 before we get let in on the secret.

For me, that's a short answer.

I have to go with tm on this one. If there is no progress being made, I start losing patience with it. As long as it's building to a conclusion I'm cool with it. I'm more than willing to read several books in a series to get to it. Every book doesn't have to be devoted to it, but as long as it's moving forward, I really enjoy it.

I have to agree with Tmthomas...when there is no progress in a story it really peeves me. Think tv show Lost..Nothing makes me madder. One of the thing that I like about your writing, is that you finish up the "story" and them we move on to Connor's next adventure..All the while a larger arc is going on in his development. it is all nicely tied up with a ribbon..gosh I hope I am making sense!!!!

Amen tm.
The only other thing that gets me is when in a long series of books, each one begins to feel the same. Similar plotlines, lack of freshness in character interaction, etc. Those can be equally frustrating.

It's good to hear this. As a reader, I completely agree. My goal with this series is to tear things apart, but keeping Connor learning in the process. I hope it remains interesting!
